Awards

The club has a number of awards which are usually presented annually.  In 2020 due to Covid the presentation was held over.

The Clubman Trophy

Current Holder: Jeremy & Julie Braithwaite

The Clubman Trophy is our oldest trophy which was presented by Classic Car Insurance in 1981.  The original trophy was replaced by this magnificent one initiated by Barry Farr when he was President.

The 1930’s had seen the introduction of a collection of model cars commonly known as ‘spindizzies’ or ‘tether cars’. They were usually hand made, fitted with a model airplane engine and raced around a wooden track, just like the full sized racers of the day. The cars raced initially on a tether anchored to a central pivot, and as speeds increased one needed to spin around to watch them – just like flying a model airplane with the same dizzying sensation – hence the nickname “Spindizzies.”

This gorgeous replica Model Bantam Midget is made in aluminium with a wooden footplate. Constructed using original blueprints from the 1930’s the car is handmade and finished in meticulous detail. Each was built from the ground up using plantation hardwood, recycled aluminium, brass and leather. You can see an unofficial world record for tether racing here.

The Shutterbug Award

IMG_6685-X4

Trophy presented by Jeremy & Julie Braithwaite for the member who makes the best contribution to the club’s photographic display.

The trophy is based on a pointscore which was based on the originally published criteria:

• Overall number of events photographed. Events can be TSCC events, or other events of interest to TSCC members, such as Goodwood, a memorable drive, a car restoration etc

• The coverage of each event. On a club run for example, do you include the cars, the people who are attending the event as well as the location. Does the viewer feel as though they were actually there?

• The quality of the photography

The pointscore is therefore

• 10 points- each gallery

• 10 points max - 1 point per 10 photos

• 10 points max - Quality

• 10 points max - Content & coverage

In 2023 Neil Mason was the outstanding photographer of the year making a massive contrinution to the club's photographic archive.  Bruce Duncan was a worthy runner up and we will look forward to a close tussle between the two in 2024.

In 2021 & 2022 Roger Korte was the clear winner and he will step down in 2023 and help Jeremy develop other photographer's contributions to the club's photographic archives.

In the first year 2019, the finalists were:

1.440 points - Roger Korte

2.354 points - Stephen Knox

3.276 points - Konrad Dover

Each received a certificate with a photo from their contributiuons during the year.
