Perth Sydney Marathon Presentation
Six TSCC members competed in the 2022 Perth Sydney Marathon, a re-run over the route of the 1968 London Sydney Marathon. This is the presentation at the February 2023 Club Meeting by Terry Daly and Roger Korte.

We started with an edit of the Castol movie of the 1968 event which included the crash of the leading Bianci Citroen with a spectator mini.  This video can be viewed here:

The full presentation can be seen here:

The PSM was joined by the remaining survivor from the spectator mini, Alan Chilcott, who told his story on the last night at Cooma.  It was a very different story to that told by the press on the day.

A number of original cars from the 1968 event competed, some like the Gerry Lister Volvo with their original drivers.

The organiser of the event, Laurie Mason, is going to be joining TSCC as soon as a membership vacancy exists.

The meeting was extremely well attended with fellow competitors Les Johnson and the two Kurrajong Kids, Les Payne and John Croft at the meeting.  Here is everyone together at the finish at Warwick Farm.

John Tourish and Lee Portelli were the 000 car in their Landcruiser, heading out in the early hours every morning to survey the rally route and plan the many detours caused by the torrential rain and floods over the 10 days of the event.

The official event site is here.

Roger Korte's Smugmug site has a gallery for the trip over here and another for the event here.

Jeremy & Julie Braithwaite joined the field at Wangaratta.  Their day by day photos are here and these are sorted by car here.  Jeremy's photos of the start of the 1968 London Sydney Marathon, the start and finish of the 1993 London Sydney Marathon, the 2014 Sydney London Marathon and the 2018 LSM Reunion at Warwick Farm are all in this folder here.  The Reunion photos include videos of the John Smailes and Will Hagon interviews with a number of original competitors in the 1968 event and subsequent marathon events.

The event hosted a Smugmug site for entrants to upload their photos.  This can be seen here.
